Fetch today's top 20 gainers, top 20 losers, and top 20 most actively traded tickers from Alpha Vantage. Write all three sections with ticker, price, change percent, and volume. Highlight any tickers that appear in column A of the Watchlist tab across all three sections.
When you want to flag movers that also have earnings this week
A mover with earnings on the same day deserves different treatment than a regular breakout.
After writing the gainers and losers table and flagging watchlist matches, check each mover against the Alpha Vantage earnings calendar. If any mover has an earnings date within the current week, add an "EARNINGS WEEK" label in the adjacent column.
When you want to archive the daily movers to a history tab
You want to build a rolling history of which stocks appear on the movers list most frequently.
After writing today's gainers and losers to the main sheet, append the date and all 40 tickers to a "Movers History" tab, one row per ticker per day. If the Movers History tab does not exist, create it.
When you need the full pre-session brief before the open
You have 45 minutes before the open. You need gainers, losers, volume movers, watchlist flags, earnings-week labels, and a two-sentence setup note for each watchlist match.
Fetch today's top 20 gainers, 20 losers, and 20 most-active from Alpha Vantage. Write all three sections with ticker, price, change percent, and volume. Flag any tickers matching column A of the Watchlist tab. Flag any mover with earnings this week. For each watchlist match, write a two-sentence setup note describing why the price action is notable based on the change percent and volume relative to the rest of the movers list.
The pattern: the data fetch, the cross-check, the flag, and the setup notes all happen before the opening bell.
