Pull eBay Search Results Into an Excel workbook for Competitive Pricing

5 min read

The Scenario

You've been running the same eBay competitive pricing check for three months. Every Monday you pull up the workbook, scan the 30 keywords in column A, open eBay in a browser tab, and start working down the list. Title, price, seller, URL — four columns per listing, five listings per keyword. You've done this enough times that you no longer really read the data as you paste it. You're just a copying machine with a pulse.

The bad version:

  • Open eBay, search the first keyword, copy the top 5 listings one at a time into rows 2 through 6, taking care to keep title in column B, price in column C, seller in column D, and URL in column E — then repeat for keyword 2 starting at row 7
  • Realize halfway through keyword 12 that you accidentally put a price in the seller column for row 34, and spend ten minutes re-checking the rows above it to figure out how far back the misalignment goes
  • Finish the full 30 keywords two hours later and discover that three of the URLs you copied are for "sold" listings that expired while you were still working through the list

You're not bad at this work. You're just doing a computer's job with human hands, and the computer would do it in thirty seconds.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent that lives inside your Excel workbook. It reads your keyword list, talks to Countdown API, and writes the eBay results back into the right columns — without you opening a browser tab or touching a row.

Search eBay for each product keyword in column A using Countdown API and write the top 5 results per keyword — title, price, seller name, and listing URL — into columns B, C, D, and E, starting at row 2 for keyword 1 and continuing in sequence

What You Get

  • Columns B through E filled with live eBay listing data for each keyword in your list
  • Each keyword block occupies 5 rows — keyword 1 in rows 2-6, keyword 2 in rows 7-11, and so on
  • Prices written as numeric values so you can sort and filter immediately without stripping currency symbols
  • Expired or unavailable listings flagged with a note rather than silently skipped

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

The keyword list has inconsistent formatting — some have trailing spaces or extra characters

Search eBay for each product keyword in column A, trim any extra spaces or special characters from the search term before querying, and write the top 5 results per keyword into columns B through E in blocks of 5 rows

The workbook already has headers and some rows pre-filled from last week

Starting at row 2, clear columns B through E for all rows that have a keyword in column A, then search eBay for each keyword using Countdown API and write the fresh top 5 results into the cleared rows

The keywords span two worksheets — "Electronics" in Sheet1 and "Apparel" in Sheet2

Search eBay for each keyword in column A of Sheet1 using Countdown API and write top 5 results into columns B-E, then do the same for each keyword in column A of Sheet2, writing results into columns B-E of Sheet2

The workbook needs pricing stats, not raw listings — clean up the keyword formatting and aggregate the results in one pass

For each keyword in column A, trim whitespace and normalize capitalization, then search eBay for the top 10 listings using Countdown API, and write the minimum price, maximum price, and average price into columns B, C, and D respectively

One prompt handles the normalization and the aggregation together — you don't need to clean first and then re-run.
