Export an eSputnik Segment Into an Excel Workbook for Enrichment

The Scenario

You are a CRM specialist. It is Monday morning and your VP of Retention wants a contact export for enrichment ready by end of day Tuesday.

Specifically: all 1,800 contacts in eSputnik's "VIP Customers" segment need to go into an Excel workbook so the analytics team can join purchase frequency data from the data warehouse using the external customer ID as the join key.

The slow version of this task:

  • You open eSputnik and navigate to the segment export
  • The built-in export only gives you email and a few standard fields, not external customer IDs
  • You download the partial CSV, open it in Excel, and realize you cannot complete the join without the ID column
  • You go back to eSputnik and try to find where external IDs live in the contact record
  • You run a raw contact export, open it in a separate workbook, do a VLOOKUP to merge the two files
  • The VLOOKUP fails on 200 rows because of email formatting inconsistencies between the two exports
  • It is Tuesday afternoon, the analytics team has been waiting since yesterday, and you still need to clean the mismatches.

The fast version is one prompt.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI reads your intent and calls eSputnik's segment export API with the exact fields you need in the right columns.

Open the SheetXAI sidebar and type:

Get all contacts in eSputnik segment ID 5543 and write their email, eSputnik contact ID, and external customer ID into columns A, B, and C of my Google Sheet.

Or for the full five-field export:

Export all contacts from eSputnik segment 'VIP Customers' into this workbook — email in column A, first name in B, last name in C, phone in D, and external customer ID in E.

SheetXAI calls eSputnik, retrieves every contact in the segment, and writes the fields directly into the workbook. The analytics team has the join key ready.

What You Get

A populated workbook with all 1,800 VIP contacts and all the fields the analytics team needs:

  • Email — primary send identifier for the loyalty campaign
  • First name and last name — for personalisation in the campaign copy
  • Phone — for the SMS follow-up track
  • External customer ID — the join key for the data warehouse enrichment

No VLOOKUP required. The external customer ID is in the same row as the email, pulled from the same API call, so there is no cross-file merging step and no risk of mismatch.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

Segment exports from eSputnik always need some shaping before they fit a downstream workbook. SheetXAI handles the reshaping in the same prompt.

When contacts with no external customer ID need a placeholder

Some VIP contacts were created manually in eSputnik and were never assigned an external ID.

Export all contacts from eSputnik segment 'VIP Customers' into this workbook — email in A, first name in B, last name in C, phone in D, external customer ID in E. For contacts with no external ID on record, write "MISSING" in column E.

When the analytics team wants the data split by subscription channel

The enrichment process is different for email subscribers versus SMS subscribers. They want separate tabs.

Export all contacts from eSputnik segment 'VIP Customers'. Write email-channel contacts to the 'Email VIPs' tab with email in A, first name in B, external ID in C. Write SMS-channel contacts to the 'SMS VIPs' tab with the same structure.

When only contacts from the last 6 months are relevant

The data warehouse only has purchase data for the past 6 months, so enriching older contacts is pointless.

Export all contacts from eSputnik segment 'VIP Customers' who were first subscribed within the last 6 months. Write email in A, first name in B, external customer ID in C into this workbook.

When you want to export, enrich, and push the enriched data back in one session

You have purchase frequency data in the 'Purchase Data' tab indexed by external customer ID. You want to attach it and update the eSputnik contact records.

Export all contacts from eSputnik segment 'VIP Customers' into the 'VIP Export' tab — email in A, first name in B, external ID in C. Then look up each external ID in the 'Purchase Data' tab and write the purchase frequency value into column D of 'VIP Export'. Finally, update each eSputnik contact with their purchase frequency as a custom field named "purchase_frequency".

The pattern: export, enrich, re-import in one conversation, without leaving Excel or writing a script.
