The Scenario
You are an operations manager for vendor onboarding. The intake workbook has 60 rows — vendor name, contract value, region, priority score, and the Trello list each card should land in. The Trello board has custom fields for all three structured attributes. The cards need to be created before the vendor kickoff calls start tomorrow morning.
The bad version:
- Create the first card in Trello manually. Open the custom fields panel. Type contract value. Pick region from the dropdown. Enter priority score. Close. Go back to Excel.
- Row two. Sixty rows total. Each with three custom field entries. That's 180 individual field edits on top of the 60 card creations.
Custom fields exist to make cards queryable as data. Filling them in manually from a workbook is the opposite of leverage.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready
You don't know the exact custom field names on the board
Read the custom field definitions from the Trello board ID in cell A1 and list them in a new worksheet called 'Fields'. Then create cards from the main worksheet using column A as name and columns B through E mapped to the fields listed in 'Fields' by position.
Region values are full country names but Trello expects region codes
For each row in this workbook, create a Trello card in list B1. Before setting the 'Region' custom field from column D, convert full country names to two-letter ISO codes. Write the card ID into column F.
Some rows are missing a contract value and should be skipped
Create Trello cards from this workbook for all rows where column C is not blank. Set custom fields Contract Value (C), Region (D), Priority Score (E). Write the card ID or 'skipped — no contract value' into column F.
Validate, create, and summarize errors in one pass
Check this workbook for rows where column C is non-numeric or column D is blank. Flag those in column G as 'invalid'. For all remaining rows, create Trello cards in list B1 with custom fields from columns C, D, E. Write card IDs into column F. Add a summary row showing counts created vs. flagged.
