Capture a Daily Market Movers Report in an Excel workbook as a Research Starting Point

The Scenario

You trade US equities. Every morning before the open you want a ranked list of the day's biggest movers — top 20 gainers and top 20 losers, with symbol, percent change, and volume. It takes you 15 to 20 minutes to build this list manually each morning by scrolling two different screener tabs, copying tickers and figures, and normalizing volume units.

Fifteen to twenty minutes, five mornings a week. You've done it 200 times. The process hasn't improved once.

The bad version:

  1. Open screener tab 1 (gainers), copy the first 20 symbols with percent change, paste into the Excel workbook.
  2. Open screener tab 2 (losers), copy the first 20 symbols, paste below the gainers.
  3. Go back and add volume figures, which are in a third column on the screener but require a separate lookup on some days because the screener resets at a different time than the quote provider updates.

The session opens at 9:30. Your watchlist is assembled at 9:28, which leaves you two minutes to decide which names you're actually watching.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent inside your Excel workbook. Through its built-in Twelve Data integration, it fetches the current top gainers and losers for the US market and writes them into the workbook in a clean, ranked format.

Fetch today's top 20 US stock market gainers from Twelve Data and write symbol, company name, percent change, and volume into columns A through D. Append the top 20 losers below with a LOSERS header row separating the two sections.

What You Get

  • Top 20 gainers written into rows 1 through 20 with symbol, company name, percent change, and volume.
  • A LOSERS header followed by the top 20 losers in the same format.
  • Volume expressed in shares, consistent across all 40 rows.
  • The snapshot time written into the header row.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

If you want to filter to stocks above a minimum volume threshold

Fetch the top 20 US market gainers from Twelve Data. Filter to tickers with volume above 500,000 shares. Write symbol, percent change, volume, and current price into columns A through D. If fewer than 20 pass the threshold, write however many qualify.

If you want pre-market movers rather than regular-session movers

Fetch pre-market top 10 gainers and top 10 losers from Twelve Data for the US equities market. Write symbol, percent change, and pre-market volume into columns A, B, and C. Separate with a header row.

If you want to check the movers list against an existing Excel watchlist

Fetch the top 20 US market gainers from Twelve Data and write into columns A through D. Check whether any symbol in column A also appears in the watchlist on the WatchList worksheet column A. Write WATCHLIST MATCH in column E for any overlap.

Kill-chain: fetch movers, filter by volume and relative volume, and highlight high-conviction setups

Fetch the top 20 US market gainers and top 20 losers from Twelve Data. Write symbol, percent change, volume, and current price into columns A through D. Fetch 30-day average volume from Twelve Data for each symbol and calculate relative volume (today's volume divided by 30-day average), writing into column E. Flag any stock with relative volume above 3x as HIGH RVOL in column F. Sort each section separately from highest to lowest relative volume.
