Create ClickUp Goals and Key Results From an OKR Planning Sheet

The Scenario

You are a head of operations. Q3 planning just wrapped. You have 12 company OKRs in a Google Sheet: goal name in column A, and three key results per goal in columns B, C, and D.

You need all 12 goals and their 36 key results created in ClickUp's Goals module before the all-hands on Thursday. The executive team will be checking ClickUp to track progress for the quarter.

The slow version:

  • You open ClickUp, click Goals, click Add Goal
  • You type the goal name, save it, then click into the goal to add key results
  • You add key result one from column B, set the type, save
  • You add key result two from column C, save
  • You add key result three from column D, save
  • You go back to the Goals list and click Add Goal for goal number two
  • By goal five you are an hour in and you are copy-pasting from the sheet with one hand
  • You finish the night before the all-hands with twelve goals but six key results missing.

The fast version is one prompt.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent inside your spreadsheet that reads the OKR sheet and creates every goal and its key results in ClickUp in one operation.

Open the SheetXAI sidebar and type:

Create a ClickUp goal for each row in column A. Under each goal, create three key results from columns B, C, and D respectively. Write the returned goal ID into column E for each row.

SheetXAI reads all 12 rows, creates each goal in ClickUp's Goals module, creates the three key results under it, and writes the goal ID back into column E. The sheet stays the planning source of truth. The executive team opens ClickUp Thursday morning and the board is ready.

What You Get

Twelve ClickUp goals with 36 key results, created in one prompt:

  • Goal names — from column A
  • Key results — three per goal, from columns B, C, and D
  • Goal IDs — written back to column E so you can link each goal later

The IDs in column E matter. Once ClickUp returns goal IDs, you can use the same sheet to track progress updates. Tell SheetXAI to fetch current completion percentages from ClickUp and write them into column F, and your planning sheet doubles as a live progress tracker.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

OKR planning sheets collected across leadership teams are rarely consistent. SheetXAI handles the cleanup and the creation in the same prompt.

When some goals are missing key results

A few rows have column B filled but columns C and D are blank. One key result is fine, but you do not want empty key results created.

For each row in column A, create a ClickUp goal. Then create key results from columns B, C, and D, but only for cells that are not blank. Write the goal ID into column E.

When key result text is too long for ClickUp's field limit

The operations team wrote full-sentence key results. ClickUp's key result name field has a character limit.

For each row, create the ClickUp goal from column A. Before creating the key results, truncate any value in columns B, C, or D that is longer than 100 characters to the first 100 characters. Then create the key results and write the goal ID into column E.

When the sheet has duplicates from two planning sessions

The sheet was edited by two team leads in different sessions and some goal names appear twice.

Deduplicate the rows in this sheet by column A, keeping the first occurrence. Then create a ClickUp goal for each unique goal name and its key results from columns B, C, and D. Write the goal ID into column E.

When the key results need percentage targets pulled from a separate tab

The goals are in this sheet but the key result targets (e.g., "Increase NPS from 42 to 60") are in a Targets tab indexed by goal name.

For each row in column A, look up the key result targets in the Targets tab by matching on goal name. Use the target descriptions as the key result names. Create a ClickUp goal for each row and add the matched key results. Write the goal ID into column E and the goal URL into column F.

The pattern: cross-reference the data, clean it, and create the goals in ClickUp, all in one prompt. The quarterly planning board is ready before you close the laptop.
