The Scenario
You are a marketing ops specialist, and your email compliance checklist has one item left before Q3 campaigns can go live: the global suppression list needs to include everyone who has ever unsubscribed from Lemlist. You have 1,200 unsubscribes in Lemlist. You also have a CRM export sitting in Sheet2 with 8,000 contacts. Legal wants to know which of those 1,200 unsubscribes are also in the CRM so the same suppression can be applied there before any other outreach goes out.
The bad version:
- Log into Lemlist, navigate to the unsubscribe section, export to CSV.
- Open the CSV, which has columns you did not ask for and a date format that Excel does not like.
- Copy the email column into Sheet1, paste it into a VLOOKUP formula against Sheet2, watch the formula return errors on 40 rows because of trailing spaces in the CRM export.
- Spend 30 minutes cleaning whitespace before the VLOOKUP works reliably.
The compliance deadline is tomorrow morning and you still have three other tools to check.
