List All Ramp Departments and Cross-Reference With an HR Org Chart Google Sheet

The Scenario

You are a People Ops analyst. The head of HR sent you a message this morning: there is a department structure audit happening and she needs to know whether Ramp's department list matches the official org chart. You have the org chart in a Google Sheet — 22 departments in column C, each with their canonical name. Ramp may have some departments that were renamed, some that were added during a reorg, and some that do not exist at all.

The bad version:

  • Go into Ramp's settings, navigate to departments, scroll through the list and manually compare each name to the spreadsheet.
  • Note down any discrepancy on paper, then go back to the sheet and mark the ones that do not match.
  • Three departments in Ramp have slightly different formatting — Engineering vs. Engineering Team, Finance vs. Finance & Accounting. Are those mismatches or just variants? You are not sure, so you flag all three and add a note.

Twenty-two departments, thirty minutes of tedious comparison, and a handful of judgment calls you are not confident about.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent inside your Google Sheet. It pulls the Ramp department list through its built-in integration and compares it against your org chart tab in the same spreadsheet.

List all departments in Ramp and paste their names and codes into column A of this sheet, then mark any that do not appear in my HR Org Chart column C as Mismatch

What You Get

  • Every Ramp department lands in column A with its name and code.
  • Any Ramp department name not found verbatim in column C is marked Mismatch in column B.
  • Departments in the org chart that have no match in Ramp can be identified by filtering column A.
  • The output is a clean side-by-side comparison ready to send to the head of HR.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

Ramp department names might use slightly different capitalization or spacing

List all Ramp departments, paste names into column A, and compare them to column C using a case-insensitive match — mark any that do not match as Mismatch and note the closest org chart name in column B for review

You want to see which org chart departments are missing from Ramp entirely

List all Ramp departments, paste their names into column A, then scan column C for any org chart department with no match in column A and mark those rows in column D as Missing from Ramp

The comparison needs to cover department codes as well as names

List all Ramp departments, paste names into column A and codes into column B, then compare both against the HR org chart in columns C and D and flag any row where either name or code does not match as Mismatch in column E

Kill chain: pull departments, find mismatches in both directions, and produce an audit summary

List all Ramp departments, paste names into column A, compare to the org chart in column C using case-insensitive matching, mark Ramp departments not in the org chart as Not in HR in column B, mark org chart departments not in Ramp as Missing from Ramp in column D, and add a summary at the top counting total Ramp departments, total org chart departments, and total mismatches in each direction

One prompt produces the complete department audit with gaps identified in both directions.
