Turn an Excel Workbook Report Into a Published Basecamp Document

The Scenario

You are a content strategist at a mid-size agency. The client kickoff call is in two hours.

Your Excel workbook has a full campaign brief in the Brief tab:column A is the section heading, column B is the body copy. The brief is approved. It just needs to be in Basecamp so the client can see it when they log in.

The bad version of this morning:

  • You open Basecamp, navigate to the client project, find the vault
  • You create a new document in Basecamp's editor
  • You copy the first heading from the workbook, paste it, format it as a header
  • You copy the body copy, paste it, clean up the line breaks Basecamp's editor dropped
  • You do this for all five sections
  • You are still fixing formatting when the call starts.

The fast version is one prompt.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent inside your Excel workbook that reads the Brief tab and publishes it as a formatted Basecamp document, without you opening Basecamp's editor.

Open the SheetXAI sidebar and type:

Convert my Excel workbook's Brief tab into a Basecamp document titled "Q3 Campaign Brief": column A is the heading, column B is the content. Post it to the vault named "Client Deliverables" in project ID 44332211.

SheetXAI reads the Brief tab, assembles the document with proper headings and paragraphs, calls Basecamp's API to publish it, and writes the document URL to a cell.

What You Get

A published Basecamp document in the client's vault:

  • Correct section structure — each row's column A becomes a heading, column B becomes the paragraph beneath it
  • Published to the right vault — the document appears where the client expects it
  • Document URL written to the workbook — a direct link without hunting through Basecamp

If the brief needs an update before the call, edit column B and run the prompt again.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

Campaign briefs pulled from email threads or shared drives are rarely in final shape.

When some sections are empty

Not all brief sections have been filled in yet.

Convert the Brief tab into a Basecamp document titled "Q3 Campaign Brief": column A is the heading, column B is the body. Skip any rows where column B is blank. Publish to vault ID 12345678 in project ID 99887766 and write the document URL to cell D1.

When the brief needs a summary introduction

You want a one-paragraph executive summary before the sections start.

Write a 3-sentence executive summary of this brief based on the content in column B of the Brief tab. Then publish a Basecamp document titled "Q3 Campaign Brief" with the summary as the opening paragraph, followed by each section using column A as headings and column B as body. Publish to vault ID 12345678 in project ID 99887766.

When the content is spread across multiple columns

Your workbook has notes across columns B, C, and D for each section, not a single body column.

Read the Brief tab: column A is the section name, columns B, C, and D are supporting notes. Synthesize each row's notes into one coherent paragraph per section. Publish a Basecamp document titled "Q3 Campaign Brief" with one section per row, to vault ID 12345678 in project ID 99887766.

When you need to publish the same brief to multiple projects at once

The same brief goes to three client project vaults.

Publish a Basecamp document titled "Q3 Campaign Brief" using column A of the Brief tab as headings and column B as body. Publish to three vaults: vault ID 11111111 in project 11112222, vault ID 22222222 in project 33334444, vault ID 33333333 in project 55556666. Write each published document URL to the Projects tab column C next to the corresponding project row.

The pattern: the Brief tab stays as the editable source, Basecamp gets the published version, and the workbook holds the link.
