Pull All Coins in a Sector Tag Into a Excel workbook for Sector Analysis

The Scenario

The fund you advise on manages a DeFi-focused allocation alongside a broad-market position. Every quarter, the investment committee wants to see how the DeFi sector as a whole performed against the overall market — not just the headline coins, but every asset tagged as DeFi in a recognized data source. Last quarter someone exported a partial list from a news site, and three of the coins on it were misclassified. The committee flagged it. It became a whole thing.

The bad version:

  • Go to Coinranking and filter by the DeFi tag. There's no bulk export — you copy the visible page, paste it into Excel, scroll to the next page, repeat for however many pages the sector spans.
  • The pasted data loses formatting on market cap (text instead of number), and the 7-day change column comes in as a string with a % sign that your AVERAGE formula refuses to read.
  • After an hour of cleanup you have a table that covers maybe 60% of the tagged coins because you lost count of which pages you'd copied.

The quarterly review is going to leadership. A sector table that's visibly incomplete — or that can't tell you the combined 7-day performance because the numbers didn't parse — doesn't strengthen the investment thesis. It quietly undermines it.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent inside Excel with a direct Coinranking integration. You describe the sector pull you need and it retrieves every tagged coin, writes them into your columns as clean numbers, and handles whatever follow-on formatting you want in the same prompt.

Get all coins tagged as DeFi from Coinranking and list coin name in column A, symbol in column B, price in USD in column C, market cap in column D, and 7-day price change percent in column E, starting at row 2

What You Get

  • Every coin in Coinranking's DeFi category, not just the first page
  • Market cap as a plain number, 7-day change as a decimal percent ready for an AVERAGE formula
  • Rows sorted by market cap descending by default, so the most significant DeFi assets are at the top
  • A count of total coins retrieved written into a header cell if you ask for it

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

You want a different sector tag — Layer 1, NFT, or Stablecoin

Get all coins tagged as Layer 1 from Coinranking and list coin name, symbol, price, market cap, and 30-day price change percent in columns A through E starting at row 2, sorted by market cap descending

You want only the top performers by 7-day change

Fetch all DeFi coins from Coinranking, write coin name, symbol, price, market cap, and 7-day change into columns A through E, then filter to only show coins with a 7-day gain greater than 10% and sort by 7-day change descending

You want to compare two sectors side by side on separate worksheets

On the worksheet named DeFi, get all coins tagged DeFi from Coinranking with name, symbol, price, market cap, and 7-day change in columns A through E. On the worksheet named Layer1, do the same for coins tagged Layer 1

Full sector-versus-market analysis in one shot

Clear columns A through F from row 2 downward on this worksheet, fetch all DeFi-tagged coins from Coinranking, write name, symbol, price (USD), market cap, 7-day change, and 30-day change into those columns, add a row at the bottom with the average 7-day change and average 30-day change across all retrieved coins, and highlight in green any coin with a 7-day change above the sector average and in red any below it

That last prompt gives you a complete sector benchmarking table with relative performance flagging in one shot.
