Compare Shippo Shipping Rates in Multiple Currencies From an Excel Workbook

The Scenario

You are a platform operator managing shipping for multiple merchants who sell into Europe. Each merchant wants to see their costs in EUR before approving the weekly label budget.

You have an Excel workbook called International Quote with one row per shipment on the EU Orders tab: origin in columns A and B, destination in columns C through F, weight in column G. You need the three cheapest USPS, FedEx, and UPS rates in EUR per row, with transit days, before you can send merchants a quote summary.

The bad version:

  • You open Shippo, fetch rates for order one specifying EUR, note the top three carriers
  • You switch to the workbook, type them in
  • You repeat for the next 40 rows
  • By the time you are done the merchants have already approved last week's rates by mistake.

The fast version is one prompt.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI reads the EU Orders tab, fetches Shippo rates in EUR for each row, and writes the three cheapest options directly into the workbook.

Open the SheetXAI sidebar and type:

Read my International Quote tab and get Shippo shipping rates in EUR for each row, writing the three cheapest options per order into the adjacent columns.

SheetXAI reads origin, destination, and weight from each row, calls Shippo's rate endpoint with currency set to EUR, and writes the three cheapest carrier names, service levels, EUR prices, and transit days into adjacent columns.

What You Get

A per-shipment rate comparison in EUR across all rows:

  • Three cheapest carriers per order — carrier name, service level, EUR price, and transit days for each option
  • Rates from your connected accounts — negotiated rates reflected if your accounts carry them
  • Ready for merchant review — the workbook can be shared directly as the quote summary

No manual switching between Shippo and Excel. All 40 rows quoted in one prompt run.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

International rate requests have more moving parts than domestic ones. SheetXAI handles edge cases inline.

When destination country values are inconsistent

Some rows have "DE," some have "Germany," some have "Deutschland." Shippo needs ISO country codes.

Normalize the destination country values in column F of my EU Orders tab to two-letter ISO codes before fetching Shippo rates. Write the three cheapest carrier, EUR rate, and transit days options per order into the adjacent columns.

When weight is recorded in pounds but some shipments need ounces

Your export uses pounds in column G. Packages under 1 lb are more accurately quoted in ounces.

For each row in my EU Orders tab, check the weight in column G. If the weight is under 1 pound, convert to ounces before fetching Shippo rates. Otherwise use pounds directly. Fetch rates in EUR and write the three cheapest options per order into adjacent columns.

When some merchants only want the cheapest option, not three

Your smaller merchants do not need the comparison view. You want a single-rate column for those rows.

For each row in my EU Orders tab, check the merchant name in column A against my Preferences tab. If the merchant prefers "cheapest only," write just the single cheapest carrier, EUR rate, and transit days into three columns. If the merchant prefers "top three," write three options. Fetch all rates in EUR.

When you want to pull rates, apply per-merchant selection rules, and produce a quote summary tab in one shot

Each merchant needs a subtotal of their estimated weekly shipping cost in EUR.

For each row in my EU Orders tab, fetch Shippo rates in EUR. Apply the selection rule from the Preferences tab: "cheapest" gets one option, "fastest under €15" gets the fastest option priced under €15. Write the selected carrier, EUR rate, and transit days into columns H, I, and J. Then create a new tab called "Merchant Quotes" with one row per merchant showing their name, order count, and estimated total EUR shipping cost for the week.

The pattern: fetch rates, apply business rules per merchant, and produce the quote summary in one prompt.
