Bulk Update Trello Board Names and Descriptions From a Excel workbook

The Scenario

The rebrand is official. The agency has a new name, a new URL, and a new naming convention for every client engagement board. Fifteen boards. All of them need their names updated and their descriptions rewritten.

Your predecessor documented the old board names in an Excel workbook. Nobody thought to include the board IDs.

Someone spent an afternoon last month clicking through the Trello workspace to collect the IDs. The notes are on a sticky note that may or may not still exist.

The bad version:

  • Open the Trello workspace, find the first board, open its Settings, update the name field, paste the new description, save.
  • Navigate back to the workspace, find the second board, repeat.
  • By board eleven, you've pasted the wrong description into two of them because the tab autocomplete sent you to the wrong window.

Fifteen boards at eight to ten minutes each is a solid two hours. The rebrand kicked off six weeks ago. This should have been done in twenty minutes.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI lives inside your Excel workbook. It reads board IDs, new names, and new descriptions from the worksheet and pushes every update to Trello without you touching the Trello UI.

Prepare your workbook with board IDs in column A, new board names in column B, and new descriptions in column C. Then:

For each row in this worksheet, update the Trello board with the ID in column A: rename it to column B and set its description to column C. Write "done" into column D when each board is updated.

If you still need to collect the IDs:

List all boards in our Trello organization and write the board name, ID, description, and last activity date into this worksheet so I can fill in the new names and descriptions.

What You Get

  • Every board renamed and re-described according to the workbook values.
  • Column D updated with "done" for each successful update, or an error note for any board that couldn't be found.
  • Archived or closed boards skipped unless they appear in your worksheet.
  • The Trello workspace view reflects the new names immediately.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

The workbook has board names but not IDs

Get all boards in our Trello organization and write board name and board ID into columns A and B of this worksheet. I'll add new names and descriptions in columns C and D before running the update.

ID collection and update prep in sequence, no manual workspace browsing required.

Some boards on the list are archived and should be left alone

Get all open (non-archived) boards in our Trello organization and write board ID, name, and description into this worksheet. Then, for each row where column C is not blank, update that board's name to column C and description to column D.

Filtering to open boards at read time keeps the update list clean.

For each row in this worksheet, update the Trello board with the ID in column A. Set its name to column B and set its description to the text in column C followed by two newlines and: "Managed by Ops. Last updated Q2 2026."

SheetXAI constructs the concatenated description inline — you don't need a helper column.

Snapshot, update, and record rollback in one pass

Get all boards in our Trello organization. Write board ID, current name, and current description into this worksheet. Then for each board whose ID also appears in column E, update the name to column F and description to column G. Write the old name into column H for rollback reference.

Before-and-after in one operation means you don't need a separate backup export.

When the rollback data is captured in the same pass as the update, undoing a mistake doesn't require a meeting to reconstruct what used to be there.

Try It
