Pull Open Confluence Tasks Into a Sheet for a Standup Digest

The Scenario

You are an engineering manager at a fintech company. Every Wednesday you run a 10 AM sprint check with six direct reports. You need a list of all open Confluence tasks assigned to the team, from the Engineering and Compliance spaces, with assignee, due date, and source page, before you walk in.

It is Tuesday evening. The workbook is on SharePoint.

The bad version of Wednesday morning:

  • Open Confluence, go to Engineering space, find the task view, note open tasks for each person
  • Switch to Compliance space, repeat
  • Open the Excel workbook, type each task in by hand
  • Realize the Compliance space does not have a clean task view for multiple assignees
  • Walk in with tasks for four of the six engineers and improvise the rest.

The fast version is one prompt the night before.

The Easy Way: One Prompt in SheetXAI

SheetXAI is an AI agent inside your Excel workbook that can query Confluence tasks and write the results directly into the workbook, so you do not have to browse a single space.

Open the SheetXAI sidebar and type:

Get all open Confluence tasks assigned to the users listed in column A and write the task text, assignee, source page, and due date into columns B, C, D, and E. Limit to tasks in the Engineering and Compliance spaces.

SheetXAI queries Confluence, pulls all open tasks for the six team members, and writes the results into the workbook. You print it before the 10 AM call.

What You Get

A complete team task digest in the workbook:

  • Column B — task description
  • Column C — assignee name
  • Column D — source Confluence page name and URL
  • Column E — due date (blank if no due date)

Every team member is covered. Sort by column C to go engineer by engineer during the sprint check, or sort by column E to lead with overdue items.

What If the Data Is Not Quite Ready

Task pulls have their own edge cases. SheetXAI handles them in the same prompt.

When Confluence usernames do not match display names in the workbook

The workbook has display names like "James Park" but Confluence stores usernames like "jpark."

For each display name in column A, look up the corresponding Confluence username and fetch all open tasks assigned to that user in the Engineering and Compliance spaces. Write the task text, display name, source page, and due date into columns B, C, D, and E.

When you want overdue tasks highlighted separately

Tasks past their due date should appear at the top so you address them first.

Get all open Confluence tasks assigned to the users in column A from the Engineering and Compliance spaces. Write them into columns B through E. Flag any task where the due date is before today as "overdue" in column F. Sort overdue tasks to the top.

When the check only covers engineers who are in the office

Two engineers are remote this week. You only want tasks for the four who will be in the room.

Get all open Confluence tasks assigned to users in column A where column B says "in-office." Write task text, assignee, source page, and due date into columns C, D, E, and F.

When you want the digest as a Confluence page for async teammates

Remote engineers want to see the digest without opening the workbook.

Get all open Confluence tasks assigned to the users in column A from the Engineering and Compliance spaces. Write task text, assignee, source page, and due date into columns B through E. Then create a Confluence page in the Engineering space titled "Sprint Check Digest — [today's date]" with the task list organized by assignee. Write the page URL into cell F1.

The pattern: pull the task data and publish the output in one prompt. The workbook sits between the two actions as working memory.
