Overview
SheetXAI lets you choose different AI models depending on the task (chatbot, content generation, URLs, etc.). Using the right defaults makes the app feel faster, cheaper, and more reliable.
Below are the model recommendations we use most often.
Recommended defaults (most users)
1) Chatbot (Chatbot tab)
- Primary recommendation: GPT-4o-mini
- If you want an alternative:
- Claude Haiku (fast + cheap)
- Claude Sonnet (stronger reasoning/writing, typically higher cost)
What this impacts: Your day-to-day chatbot requests, sheet transformations, “do this to my sheet” operations, and general spreadsheet help.
2) Content generation (SAI-Content tab)
- Primary recommendation: Gemini Flash
What this impacts: Content-heavy operations (long-form writing, bulk content, structured output for content tasks).
3) URLs / web content (URL tab)
- Primary recommendation: Perplexity Sonar
What this impacts: Any operations that analyze webpages/URLs, web research, and URL-based extraction.
Easiest way to access most models: OpenRouter
Instead of setting up multiple providers (and multiple API keys), you can often get access to many models in one place by using an OpenRouter API key.
Why this helps:
- One key gives you access to a broad catalog of models (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and more, depending on availability).
- Easier switching when testing model quality or cost.
- Less credential management across tabs.
Quick setup checklist
- Set GPT-4o-mini in Chatbot tab for chatbot
- Set Gemini Flash in SAI-Content tab for content tasks
- Set Perplexity Sonar in URL tab for URL/web tasks
- Use an OpenRouter key if you want broad model access without separate keys
