What this looks like
You click Show Task Pane in Excel and one of these happens:
- An "initialization failed" error appears, then the task pane goes blank.
- The pane opens but is fully empty — no login screen, no SheetXAI UI.
- Toggling the pane on and off does nothing.
This is almost always an Excel or Office runtime issue on your machine — not a problem with SheetXAI itself. The fixes below resolve it in nearly every case.
How to fix it
- Toggle the task pane off and back on. Close it from the ribbon, wait a few seconds, then reopen.
- Fully close Excel and reopen it. Make sure no Excel process is still running in the background (Task Manager on Windows, Activity Monitor on Mac) before reopening.
- Reboot your computer. This clears the Office add-in runtime entirely and resolves the issue in the vast majority of reports we get.
- Open Excel and click Show Task Pane again. SheetXAI should load normally.
Why you may be asked to log in again afterwards
After a reboot or 24 hours of inactivity, Excel re-authenticates add-ins. You'll see a SheetXAI login prompt the next time you open the task pane. This is expected behavior — sign in once and you're back to normal.
